Jolanta Turkiewicz worked for many years as a sworn translator of Italian and French. When she retired, she decided to devote herself fully to what had been her passion in her free time – farming and food processing. In 2009, her farm obtained organic certification. Powielin is famous for its delicious blueberries, which ripen in July and are grown on a 10-hectare plantation. Jola also takes care of over three hectares of old variety apple orchards. One of the first signs of spring on the farm is asparagus. Tomatoes, pumpkins and cabbages ripen in the middle of summer. In autumn, the season ends with the cranberry harvest, which Mrs Jola freezes so that it is also available in winter. Freezing is good for the fruit, as cranberries should be frozen to concentrate their flavours. The vegetables and fruit from Powielin are used to make fantastic preserves. Sauerkraut is made regularly throughout the year, and delicious cucumbers are produced in the summer, but the supplies can be used until spring. Due to the fact that Ms Jola is busy working on the farm, you will meet her daughter, Ms Asia, at the Powielin Organic Farm’s organic market stall every day.
